Observe
1. I see a store that looks like it is not in very good shape or has a lot of buisness.
2. What I notice at first is a few people standing outside of the store just standing around
3. It seems like the store is on an area of barren land in the middle of nowhere.

Reflect
1. I think this image was made to show how poor some people were and how badly businesses were doing back then.
2. I think this image was made in the 1930's around the time of the depression because it seems to have a bad economy.
3. I think if someone were to make this differently, I think that it was be built a little more modern with a more sturdy material as well as be in a more civilized area.

Question
1. Who are the people in the picture?
2. Why are they on a bad landscape?
3. How else are they being treated?

Reflect
1. I think this image was made to show other people now a days what the architecture looked like back then.
2. From examining this image, I can tell that the buildings were not built as sturdy and looks a lot different than modern day architecture.
3. I think this picture was made in the 1930s due to the look of the architecture and how the structure looks.

Question

3. If someone made this today, some things might be different like a bigger building, more items, and a more sturdy material.

Part 3A
Listening to all of these stories makes me feel bad about what people had to go through during the great depression with all the issues with obtaining money and getting jobs. Chris Thorsten (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/thorsten.html) had talked about some of the dangerous jobs that he had to go through during the great depression. He ended up breaking several bones in his body and could not work for 4 years. Jim Cole(http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/jimcole.html) had to be a butcher during the great depression. He wanted to join the AFL union when younger but they would not take him. They never said it to his face but he says the reasons were just plain. Mrs. Marie Haggerty (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/marie.html) was a nurse during the great depression and said that they would always test you no matter what. She said that one time there was a five dollar bill on the bed one time but she didn't take it because she new she was being tested.
Anna Novak (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/anna.html) worked at the stock yards were she did not make much. She would always be out working during the holidays and see men walking around with a bunch of money enjoying themselves. Bernice (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/bernice.html) had to rent out her apartment with two other people during the great depression for sixty dollars a month after her husband ran off and left her. This goes to show that life in the great depression was tough and people were willing to go through terrible and painful jobs just to make a little money.
